10 Most Controversial Scenes In Gaming History

3. The Punisher - Executions

the punisher video game The Punisher, a man-turned- myth that represents all that is righteous and freeing about vigilante justice, but also a deeply troubled psychotic man that (in Garth Ennis€™ run in the comics) has his own fair share of problems that arise when your daily activities involve leaving a trail of intestines across New York. With Volition€™s The Punisher game, they focused wholeheartedly on the €˜mass-killing€™ aspect of the character, instilling a game mechanic that let you torture enemies for health and information. Some would tell you they had a family, some would say it was their first day on the job, and some would just leave you with an insult. All would know they were about to die in a myriad of grisly ways. From feeding a criminal legs-first into a woodchipper to sticking their face in a car-chroming machine, dropping them into an industrial-sized meat-mulcher and even featuring an American History X-style teeth-to-curb stomp, the game was so horrifically violent that it ended up receiving a variety of patches leading up to release. In the final version during the torture scenes the camera will cut to black and white, as well as zooming in to Punisher€™s face as you see blood fly fast his grimacing €˜another-day€™s-work€™ look. It didn€™t take long for PC gamers to release a mod of their own, revealing the gory kills for all to see, as due to the development process and the initial inclusion of said torture scenes, they were very much still in the game, having been animated well before the black and white zoom filter had been implemented.
