10 CRIMINALLY Overlooked PS3 Games
The passed over gems of Sony's seventh gen console.
The seventh generation was a rough time for Sony. While the esteemed competition - the Xbox 360 and the Nintendo Wii - were basically money printers, the PS3 started slow and had to fight tooth and nail for every inch.
Most of this was due to bad hardware and business decisions, such as an obscene original price point that the market swiftly laughed out of the room before they backtracked. Moreover - the console's CELL microprocessor makes emulating the PS3's library a nightmare.
So if it isn't available on the other two consoles, or hasn't been ported to more recent hardware - that's that.
With all that being said, when the PS3 got it right, boy did it ever get it right.
While the PS2's era of developer experimentation being the mainstream norm was passing by, it wasn't quite in the rearview mirror yet. As such, there were a ton of great games released for Sony's Dark Horse. So many, that quite a few of them fell through the cracks of mainstream notice.
These games either deserved so much more than they got at release, or have unfairly fallen by the wayside of current conversation.
10. Legend of Heroes: Trails of Cold Steel
Localization can be a cruel mistress. While the process has become much more reliable nowadays, even in the age of simul-dubbing, it isn't a guaranteed thing. And just over ten years ago, it was even worse. If you couldn't land a proper distributor in time, get ready for your game's relevance outside of your home country to be shot in the foot.
This was the unfortunate case of The Legend of Heroes: Trails of Cold Steel.
Due to distributing issues, Cold Steel didn't come out in the west until way after the PS3's relevance, being one of the last franchise releases for the console. Add onto that the fact that the Trails series has always struggled over here, and what you get is a game that not a lot of people played. Which is a shame because Trails of Cold Steel rocks.
If you're looking for a really fun turn-based RPG with dating sim mechanics, and Fire Emblem Awakening isn't what you're in the mood for at the moment, you'll have a lot of fun with Trails of Cold Steel.
