10 Criminally Underrated Video Games That Deserve A Second Chance
1. Torment: Tides Of Numenera
Why it got overlooked:
Okay, so this one is slightly unfair, as it's only just been released. However, Torment: Tides of Numenera was released the same day as Horizon: Zero Dawn, and was funded entirely by Kickstarter – so you can see why it is in danger of being overlooked going forward.
Why it deserves a second chance:
Numenera is the spiritual successor to Planescape: Torment - widely held as one of the greatest RPGs of all time. It takes us back to the multiple universes of Planescape, where the protagonist – the casted off body of an immortal being – seeks to rediscover their past and escape a terrifying monster that hunts them.
Like it's predecessor, the plot is complex, intellectual and so incredibly interwoven that virtually every decision you make shapes your character and the world around you. Companions will leave or fight you, as it's impossible to please everyone, and actions have far-reaching, unforeseeable consequences.
The game explores deep philosophical constructs and doesn't shy away from disturbing and dangerous themes. The combat is intricate and allows for massive customisation. Just be prepared to have patience and to do a lot of reading.
