10 Criminally Underrated Video Games That Deserve A Second Chance
2. Orwell
Why it got overlooked:
This 1984-inspired simulation game has rave reviews and excellent critic scores from journalists and players, alike. Alas, as an indie title only released on PC, it just didn't have the big money investment behind it to advertise widely enough. It's popular with it's fans, but not enough people know about it.
Why it deserves a second chance:
In a world of celebrity presidents, the rise of populism and governments spying on their citizens, '1984' has never been more relevant – as demonstrated by the recent spike in sales of the classic dystopian novel. For the first time since the book was published in 1949, we have the opportunity to take on the role of an employee in the Ministry of Truth – or the Ministry of Security, as it is in Orwell.
Amidst a compelling and eerie plot, the game allows the player to experience what it means to give a government access to your data, and how it can not only be more invasive than you anticipated, but be used to harm loved ones or for someone's personal gain, rather than for national security.
Whatever your political views, the gameplay is fun and the story incredibly interesting.
