10 Darkest Vaults In Fallout History
6. Vault 22
We’ve covered off on plenty of deliberate acts of malice from Vault-Tec, but some Vault mishaps were indeed just mishaps. Of course, that doesn’t mean the results were any less gruesome.
Vault 22 was set up to investigate under what conditions plants could survive in a vault, which kinds would be able to thrive, and if a population could live off of them alone. One such plant was a kind of fungal spore that was supposed to act as a kind of pest control. Yes you did hear fungal spore and yes things are about to get Last of Us-y.
The spore began to infect the vault’s inhabitants, it killed off the mind of the host but kept control over the body turning them into extremely violent beings called Spore Carriers. Some residents managed to escape the Vault, and those left behind became the even more malformed infected that you’ll be unlucky enough to encounter in Fallout: New Vegas. To add insult to injury these things don’t even show up in VATS until after the Spore Carriers get up. And some of the Carriers are very small, suggesting they may once have been children or babies.
If you’re looking for this one you can spot it from the hastily scrawled signs outside that read “Stay Out! The Plants Kill”
