10 Exact Moments Video Games Stopped Trying

5. That Kiss - Sonic The Hedgehog

Batman Arkham Knight Hush
Sega

Right up there as one of the worst games ever made, Sonic the Hedgehog was released back in 2006 and was intended to be the game that finally put SEGA's flagship mascot on a respectable pedestal for the world of 3D after years of mixed reviews from critics and fans. It took a lot of its inspiration from traditional superhero films, leading to the decision to make everything around Sonic and co. be more realistic and grandiose.

This game is an absolute car crash for a number of reasons. The ridiculous loading times, the complicated storyline, the dialogue and scarcely believable amount of game-breaking bugs make it abundantly clear that Sonic '06 was rushed to hell and incomplete upon its release.

However, there is one moment in particular that has become so infamous that it has gone down in history as the exact moment when SEGA completely gave up and let everything fly out of control. After Sonic is killed by bad guy Mephiles, players are shown a cinematic where Princess Elise is shown cradling his body and shedding a couple tears for the hero of the hour. She then leans in, triggering a wave of gamers to unite in their horror, and kisses the blue hedgehog on the lips and bringing him back to life.

It's amazing to think that a series that was once groundbreaking in its design and the 'cool' alternative to the likes of Super Mario could have fallen so far.
