10 EXACT Moments You Knew Video Game Characters Were Doomed

6. Anything For Trish - Infamous

Infamous stars Cole McGrath, an unfortunate courier who gets exposed to a mysterious blast that gifts him superhero (or villain) powers. However, the explosion causes mass devastation. Trish, Cole's girlfriend, blames him for the death of her sister Amy, fracturing their relationship which our protagonist spends the game trying to fix whilst Trish acts hostile.

At the end of the mission Anything for Trish, she forgives Cole... and then come the words "I want us to be together again". Uh oh.

In fairness to Infamous, it does throw players off the scent. The next time you meet Trish, she's in grave danger but the player is presented with an all-important choice. They can either be pragmatic and save six doctors from certain doom, or sacrifice them to selfishly choose Trish. However, even if players are taking Cole down the route of the bad guy, in a brilliant act of subversion, Trish will always be at the opposite location to the one you visit, ensuring her death.

Which is all well and good, but her death was ensured when she finally patched things up with Cole. You don't do these things before the final mission, when there are things still at stake - otherwise you become the stakes. As impactful as Trish's death is - especially if you chose her over the doctors - she had nothing more to give and was always fated to die.
