10 Extreme Moments Where Video Game Fans Took Things Too Far

2. Demanding A Reviewer Be Fired Over Giving GTA V 9/10

One of the more hateful aspects of gaming fanboy rage stems from the score given to a particular game. It's sadly been a regular fixture across many outlets for years now, with angry gamers throwing around all kinds of conspiracies and claims over reviewer bribery and other agendas influencing the score.

Things came to a head when GameSpot reviewer Carolyn Petit gave Grand Theft Auto a 9/10 in 2013. Not only did the comment section and forums explode in anger, a Change.org petition demanding she be fired from the site for disrespecting GTA 5 gained far too much traction given the circumstances.

GameSpot had seen problems with the community moaning over review scores before, but never had they reached such a vicious level. The website staff had to change their community guidelines and forum rules, but the most stern condemnation came with an episode of Feedbackula. In this forgotten series, a set of comments were confronted directly by a staff member.

Luckily, the website did not give in to the abysmal community behaviour and Petit herself was not fired. Giving a game a 9 instead of a 10 is a ridiculous thing to get worked up over, but yet again the gaming community sunk to new lows.
