It must have been pretty daunting to end a sprawling game like Metal Gear Solid 4; creating a final scene or fight to top the set pieces, action sequences and boss fights that came before must have been a tough task. Not for a master craftsman like Hideo Kojima though. The final fight of Metal Gear Solid 4 is beautifully done - one final duel between Solid Snake and Liquid Ocelot on top of the battleship Outer Haven. The fight itself is full of Metal Gear nostalgia (even the health bars are beautifully done here) but when all is said and done, Solid Snake defeats his 'brother' one final time, causing Liquid Snake's personality to vanish, leaving Ocelot to die alone but with his identity restored. Here, in his final moments, he reflects on how Snake is the doppelganger of Big Boss (just as Ocelot is Liquid's) and finally utters his ultimate line - "you're... pretty good." It's a beautifully poignant line and not just for the level of respect shown by Ocelot with his last breath. In fact, the line was uttered twice previously in the series. Ocelot says it to Snake when he is first defeated by him (back in the original game) but more importantly, Big Boss is the first to say it when he first encounters Ocelot during the events of Snake Eater (fifty years earlier in the Metal Gear Solid story). It's a relatively simple phrase but the historic meaning behind those three words makes it a genius note to end Ocelot's life on; his show-pony nature is stripped away to show that underneath, he actually holds a lot of respect for Solid Snake.
I have an addiction to achievements, a craving for new bands and a dream to become Captain America. I once finished second in a Mario Kart 7 tournament so I'm kind of a big deal.
