10 Famous Last Words That Made Awesome Video Game Moments
10. "I Should Have Killed You Long Ago" - Haytham Kenway (Assassin's Creed III)
In a game that felt devoid of larger-than-life characters and charisma, Haytham Kenway was a breath of fresh air. Acting as one of the main villains of the game, he was by far the most interesting part of Connor's story, not least because he was his father. The first section of the game is spent with Haytham and he also shows up intermittently throughout, stealing whatever scene he happens to be in. Hunting down Haytham and bringing him to justice is by far the biggest motivation to continue with Assassin's Creed III. Connor and Haytham finally have their showdown and Connor bests his father with a surprise Hidden Blade to the throat. In typical Assassin's Creed style, the scene strips away, leaving a dying Haytham to deliver one final monologue for Connor's ears only. He shows no remorse for his actions (saying "I will not weep and wonder what might have been") but he does reflect on an odd pride that he feels for Connor, naming his conviction, strength and courage as "noble qualities". Of course, Haytham isn't one to blunt his words and he dies with a final bitter regret - "I should have killed you long ago." Those final words show exactly the sort of man Haytham was - one who would do anything to gain and maintain power. It's a great ending that shows that, despite his likable qualities, he was ultimately a villain that needed to be brought down.
I have an addiction to achievements, a craving for new bands and a dream to become Captain America. I once finished second in a Mario Kart 7 tournament so I'm kind of a big deal.
