10 Fatal Video Games That Killed Popular Franchises
4. Dino Crisis 3
Dino Crisis is often
described as just 'Resident Evil with dinosaurs', but the game was incredibly atmospheric,
and was praised by critics for its superior graphics and gameplay. In 2000,
Capcom developed a sequel entitled Dino Crisis II, which picked up after the
events of the previous game, and was similar in both tone and style to the
original.
However, in 2002, for some unbeknown reason, the series decided to jump the shark in the most spectacular way imaginable, relocating the setting for the series into outer space. For whatever reason, Dino Crisis 3 takes place on a remote space station, and features mutant dinosaurs, because regular dinosaurs were insufficient, apparently. The game also featured some of the worst camera perspectives in history, and was heavily criticised for its poor design, awkward controls and repetitive gunplay.
Dino Crisis 3 killed one of the most underrated survival horror franchises in history, a franchise which might have survived had its reputation not been irrevocably damaged by its third instalment. To date, the series is presumed KIA, and there’s been absolutely no talk of a revival.
