10 Forgotten Nintendo 64 Gems You Need To Play In 2022

9. Tetrisphere (1997)

The concept of a Tetris game in 3D has been attempted many times to varying degrees of success, but few have taken quite as many liberties with the property as the Nintendo 64’s Tetrisphere. As the name implies, players are tasked with aligning tetrominoes as precisely as they can, though the core gameplay has been changed somewhat from the original version.

Rather than lining up blocks as they fall in real time, Tetrisphere asks players to pick out certain blocks from a sphere and match them up with as many blocks of the same shape as they can.

As a result, this game doesn’t really feel all that similar to the GameBoy title from which it supposedly borrows, though that isn’t to say that it is a bad game. Tetrisphere is a uniquely entertaining puzzle experience, and there’s a surprising amount of depth and variety on offer for experts in the Tetris field.

Fans of the original game may want to give this one a play: it may seem like a radically different game at first, but it remains every bit as challenging as its predecessor.
