10 Games We All Used To Play In IT Class

Whilst the likes of Stick Cricket and Magical Kicks focused on a single sport, Slime Athlete was a multi-sport experience, with the likes of Slime Soccer, Volleyball and Basketball all offering slight variations on a basic yet effective premise.

Each Slime game featured a ball and an avatar on either side of the screen, tasking players with moving their slime to hit the ball into their opponents’ goal/basket/zone (depending on the game). Each could be played single player or multiplayer, with each competitor using a different side of the keyboard to control their avatar.

The latter was always preferable, suspicious as it may have looked to have two people frantically tapping away on one computer, as the opportunity to gain bragging rights from the thrashing of a classmate was never to be passed up.

The game was apparently simple to rewrite from original creator Quin Pendragon’s code, leading to it being hosted across a number of sites, each of which would seemingly develop its own variants (such as rugby, squash, dodgeball). This ensured that the it was always readily playable, with IT technicians always playing catchup to filter the latest version or mirror.

The fact that the Slime Athlete website still makes reference to AIM and looks like it was made in GeoCities is a sad testament to the passage of time, but nothing can take away the completely unrealistic memories of winning countless World Cups with England.
