10 GENIUS Ways Video Games Hide Load Times

6. Bridging Set Pieces - God Of War Series (2005-)

While many video games are known for this crafty little trick, good lord does God of War do it better than anyone!

You'll notice this from the very first instalment right the way up to Kratos's bearded 2018 outing. Basically, any time you come across a long and fairly empty pathway, a treacherous wall climb or a set of stairs going on for ages, you're essentially buying the game some time to seamlessly load the next area.

After all, the legendarily angry Kratos isn't one to wait around behind a pesky loading screen!

With the fixed camera perspective of the first three games, this technique is far more common in the series' early years. It does show up briefly in 2018's God of War, though, as before a wide-open section in the realm of Helheim is a short, S-shaped crevice that Kratos and Atreus must crouch underneath to get through.

Granted, these types of things aren't the most fun things you'll ever experience in a video game, but given the choice between them and staring at a black screen for half a minute? It's really a no-brainer.
