10 GREAT Nintendo Switch Games You Can Buy For Under £20

Great things come in cheap packages.

Rocket League
Psyonix

Just two years ago, if you'd said that Nintendo's next console would be the go-to-place for indie games, you'd be laughed out the room. Especially because for years, the words "Nintendo" and "indie" were seldom mentioned in the same sentence.

In 2018 however, that's exactly what the Nintendo Switch is; a haven for all independent projects. Now, there's certainly an argument to be made that adding 30 games to the eShop each week - as Nintendo has stated intent to do - is merely a race to the bottom, and one that ends in a Steam-like mess of broken games. It certainly seems we're headed that way, but that also means you might need an extra hand in finding the very best titles.

On the eShop in particular, the cream of the crop need an extra spotlight shone their way, and the best part is, many of the best games of the past few years are available for less than £20, too.

The Switch may be overflowing with games, but fret not - it's worth wading through the wasteland to find some genuine gems.

10. Subsurface Circular - £4.79

Rocket League
Mike Bithell Games

At just shy of £5, Subsurface Circular is a steal. Admittedly it is a rather unique game however, as it's essentially a conversation simulator starring intelligent androids on a train.

Subsurface Circular was developed by Bithell Games, the studio named after its founder, one of the industry's most unique and innovative designers, Mike Bithell. The British developer gained fame in 2012 when he released Thomas Was Alone, an award-winning game he designed, appropriately enough, alone.

Bithell eventually released a second, albeit very different game, called Volume. While Thomas Was Alone was a simple 2D platformer starring a literal square, Volume was a 3D stealth game, inspired by Metal Gear Solid's training simulations.

The third full game from Bithell truly cemented him as one of the industry's most interesting developers, one who was willing to try anything. Subsurface Circular released in 2017 and has an impressive 10/10 on Steam, out of 799 reviews! It's is a very short game with no traditional gameplay; it's essentially a text-adventure with great graphics and a noir-detective story. If that sounds like something you'd be interested in, it's a great (and cheap way to kill a few hours!
