10 Greatest Gaming Wing-Men Ever
4. Diddy Kong (Donkey Kong County series)

Players were first introduced to Diddy Kong in the original Donkey Kong Country for N64. Diddy Kong appeared as Donkey Kong's sidekick, in training to become a video game star in the same vein as DK. Originally, Diddy was intended to be a kind of revamped Donkey Kong Jr., but he quickly developed into a completely separate and distinct character. And that's a very good thing, because he is just such a great sidekick to Donkey Kong throughout the entire series.
For instance, he has a set of completely unique abilities that enable players to access unreachable areas and take on enemies. He is a very agile and lightweight character, and while he can't ground pound (at least in the original games), he has special moves such as the cartwheel attack. His Barrel Jet is useful for levitating and maneuvering across gaps. And he has Peanut Popguns with which to stun enemies. As a character, Diddy is beloved that he was given his own game, Diddy Kong Racing. There is no doubt in my mind that Donkey Kong would be lost without the help of his young apprentice, who is heroic enough to garner my number 4 spot.
