10 Greatest Gaming Wing-Men Ever
3. Mr. Drippy (Ni No Kuni)
I've mentioned before how completely I love Ni No Kuni, a great JRPG from Studio Ghibli and Level-5. In my mind, almost everything about the game is perfect. It is fun and engaging, and I can literally spend hours at a time running errands, completing bounty hunts, taming familiars, and buying armor. And those are just optional side quests. The main story is great as well, concentrating on three main characters on a journey to defeat Shadar and save the world.
But I think one character is often overlooked and underrated. At the beginning of the game, you meet Mr. Drippy, Lord High Lord of the Fairies. He is the teacher/mentor character that guides Oliver throughout the perils and victories of the game, but his story begins much earlier. For the earliest portion of Oliver's life, Mr. Drippy poses as Oliver's beloved doll, a great source of comfort as Oliver loses his mother. As a mentor, though, Mr. Drippy is even better. He walks the player through using spells, taming and leveling up familiars, and navigating the map. He is like Navi, but not as annoying. Mr. Drippy is my number 3 pick.
