In this game, you play as an SCU agent named Ethan Thomas, who investigates the scene of a murder. After he loses his gun to a strange man hiding in the shadows, it is used to kill two fellow officers, and Thomas is hunted for the crime. He intends to prove his innocence, but it's clear that not everything is what it seems, as he begins to fight against homeless men and women who have grown inexplicably insane.

Throughout the game, you encounter many enemies and come to learn that a dark creature known as The Hate is responsible for the chaos that has surrounded your playtime. Eventually, you get the chance to end it when you finally take this beast down.

After these events, you watch as Ethan talks with Rosa, a forensics investigator at the HQ and understand that the agency no longer trusts Ethan. Then as he goes into the bathroom, he begins to erupt with pain, and he turns to the camera, revealing that his mouth becomes that of The Hate.

It's a thoroughly dark and tragic way to end the story, ultimately matching the gritty and hopeless tone of the game itself.
