10 Greatest Super Mario Spin-Offs Of All Time
3. Super Mario RPG: Legend Of The Seven Stars
At this stage, Mario is no stranger to RPG titles. From
Paper Mario to Mario & Luigi, he’s seen many different adventures outside
the realm of platforming but without Super Mario RPG: Legend Of The Seven
Stars, things could’ve been very different.
Developed by Square back in 1996 on SNES, it begins with the
now-standard premise of Bowser kidnapping Princess Peach. Soon into the
journey, a giant sword called Exor falls to Earth, breaking the star road and taking
residence through Bowser’s castle.
Upon returning back to the Mushroom Kingdom, Mario quickly discovers it’s been overrun by Smithy, a robotic blacksmith seeking world domination. Joined on his journey by Geno, a doll given life to restore the Star Road and Prince Mallow, they set out to retrieve the seven star pieces lost after Exor’s rampage.
It went under the radar for many fans, never seeing a
European release until Nintendo brought it to the Wii’s Virtual Console service
in 2008. Bringing an intriguing battle system, excellent story and good sense
of humour, it’s still a solid adventure worth revisiting.
