10 Hardcore Challenges Gamers Set THEMSELVES
3. Low Heart Challenge - Zelda: Twilight Princess
Have you played your way through every single Soulslike game there is? What? Even Lords of the fallen? Why, it's just awful? Looking for a way of imbuing that level of stress to a childhood favourite that was just good fun beforehand? Well, have I got good news for you.
Some genius came up with the idea of tackling a Zelda game without ever upgrading your health from the initial three hearts you begin with. This isn't really too big a deal early on in the game but quickly becomes a task and a half once you reach a certain point and the difficulty spikes, coincidentally in accordance with your heart rate and stress levels.
This forces you to approach the game in a different way than is expected of the player. Be it adopting a more defensive approach or perhaps utilising tools you've earned in somewhat unconventional ways or trying your best to just avoid combat altogether.
A great example of the extreme of this is The Cave of Ordeals from Twilight Princess. Try that nonsense with three hearts. But why do that? Why ever leave Yeto and Yeta and just make soup forever?
I've literally never made it past that level, psychologically speaking.
