10 Hated Video Game Moments You're Totally Wrong About

9. Batman Mourns The Joker - Batman: Arkham City

Final Fantasy X
Rocksteady

Though Batman: Arkham City is one of the most beloved entries in Rocksteady's superhero franchise, many fans took umbrage with the ending, where Batman mourns The Joker's death, solemnly carrying his corpse and placing it on the hood of Commissioner Gordon's car.

Many criticised the scene for feeling out of character for Batman, that he appeared excessively depressed for witnessing the death of his most persistent arch-nemesis.

But there's so much more to it than that. Batman's quest to save even The Joker is about more than just one person - if he can save even his biggest enemy, then there's no reason he can't save anyone else.

With The Joker dead at the end, then, that's no longer true - it's a realisation of Bats failing to meet his own incredibly high standard for heroism, even if most fans are likely happy to let him off the hook.

And of course, it goes without saying that Batman and The Joker's relationship is just unhealthily co-dependent from top to bottom - with the Clown Prince of Crime dead, there's a void left behind.

Far from emotionally implausible as some might claim, it's really a perfect summation of how psychologically complex Batman is as a character.
