10 Hated Video Game Moments You're Totally Wrong About
2. Tidus' Laugh - Final Fantasy X
Pretty much any discussion about Final Fantasy X will only go so long before someone brings up the infamous laughing Tidus scene, which is regularly posted online out of context as an example of apparently poor video game voice acting.
Yet that's not true, like, at all.
Tidus' stiff, robotic laugh is precisely the point - he lets out a deliberately over-the-top, ridiculous laugh in an attempt to cheer up Yuna, resulting in her joining in with her own fake-laugh.
Most of the meme clips unsurprisingly cut off before the pair genuinely laugh together in decidedly less-robotic fashion.
It was clearly intended to be nothing more than a goofy slice of comic relief as two downtrodden characters work through their feelings, but it's been rather uncharitably reinterpreted outside of its full context as merely bad acting.
That still doesn't mean the scene is going to work for everyone, and that's fine, but for the great many who dismiss it out of hand, they're often doing it for the wrong reason.
