10 Highest-Rated Video Games On Metacritic - Ranked
5. SoulCalibur
Metacritic Score: 98
It might be Tekken that commands the spotlight whenever anyone thinks of Namco fighting games, but it's Soulcalibur that remains one of the most surprising and mechanically tight fighters of them all.
Chances are, this title's high scores are simply from the feel of Namco taking their face button-controlled fighting engine and refining it to comprise dedicated light and heavy attacks, a kick, grapples and a block. As such, immediately there was a more tactical bent to gameplay we didn't even know we wanted, yet fighting fans lapped it up.
Soulcalibur was one of the most played fighting games of the late 90s, a cherished Dreamcast classic, and has a core engine that's just as enjoyable today.
