10 Horrifying Video Game Moments YOU Are Responsible For
7. Blowing Up Megaton
Though its usage as an example of the difficult moral choices presented by Fallout 3 probably isn't very fair seeing as though the player's options are either completely good or entirely evil without any shades of grey in-between, the unexploded bomb in Megaton does set the player up for how they are going to navigate the Capital Wasteland.
After leaving Vault 101, the burgeoning town of Megaton is likely the first populated settlement that the player will happen upon during their journey in the irradiated wastes.
Once there, they will find out that Megaton was formed around the site of an unexploded atom bomb, and are tasked with finding a way to deactivate it.
Or... they could choose to do the bidding of Mr Burke, who wants the entire settlement wiped off the map without any real justification and rewards the player handsomely for doing so.
If the player decides to take the evil route the entire town will be eviscerated, leaving all but one of Megaton's NPCs dead.
Burning one of the few relatively nondiscriminatory settlements in the entire game to the ground solely for personal gain is about as evil as you can get.
