10 Hotly-Anticipated 2016 Video Games You Should Be Worried About
8. Quantum Break
Developers at Remedy have had a rather unfortunate run of luck since the release of the Xbox 360. Starting work on Alan Wake, a horror title that Microsoft hoped would be a major system-seller for their then-new console, the developers suffered numerous delays due to internal concept changes. As a result, what started off as an ambitious open-world horror title eventually turned into a rather standard - if narratively inspired - third-person shooter. And while I personally thought Alan Wake was one of the top games of the last generation, the expectations that sky-rocketed in the run up to the game meant that many fans and critics were disappointed that it didn't break the boundaries they thought it would. Unfortunately, it looks like their latest game, Quantum Break, could be repeating that same cycle. Announced along with the Xbox One, the title was initially an attempt to mesh live-action TV with gameplay in a way that complimented the company's approach to the console at the time. Of course, since then, Microsoft's TV division has been all but scrapped, meaning Quantum Break won't be releasing in the climate it was designed to flourish in. I have no doubt that the game is going to be an incredibly solid shooter with a top-notch story, it just once again might not be the world-changing killer app the company - and many fans - are expecting.
