What Is It?

Bioshock-style 'world gone mad' FPS with a way bigger survival focus. You're one of the only citizens to kick your addiction to 'Joy'; a hallucinogenic drug that convinces the masses that everything they're seeing is made up of literal sunshine and rainbows.

We Happy Few has been in Early Access since July, but development continues thundering forward. As it stands the game is a threadbare introduction to the world and themes of societal oppression within an alternate history framework, but forever "coming soon" are a host of fixes, alongside the full game's story.

Why Should I Care?

Seriously, it might just be the next Bioshock. The feel of everything as you explore is just that damn creepy.

We Happy Few's backstory is one of alternate history: Hitler still didn't succeed in taking over Europe, but Germany did, after labelling themselves the 'German Empire'. This led to the introduction of a drug called 'Joy' as the city of Wellington Wells needed to convince the masses that living in an occupied Britain was something less than Hell - alongside forcing them to suppress "an event" the civilians took part in, which will be revealed as part of the story.

You have to admire the heart behind what Compulsion are creating. The only reason the game is in Early Access at all is to allow for more playtesters, as the paltry five that were working on We Happy Few just couldn't get the work done to satisfy all their Kickstarter backers, simply down to the project taking off so much in the past year.

Here's to them getting more content out sooner, rather than later.
