While not commonly regarded as the best in the trilogy thanks to its shift away from survival horror and move towards microtransactions, Dead Space 3 nevertheless offered a fast-paced action horror that utilised its co-op system in intriguing ways.

The third and final instalment sees veteran protagonist Isaac Clarke forcibly recruited by the government to track down his ex-girlfriend Ellie on the frozen planet Tau Volantis, which is believed to be the origin of the Marker. Throughout the mission, Isaac and his team uncovers ground-breaking new information about the Necromorphs’ history and plans.

These revelations culminate in an epic final showdown against a moon-sized Necromorph, which ends with our heroes falling to their presumed deaths. However, a post-credit scene showing Isaac waking up in bed proved that he somehow survived that fall. However, to find out how such a feat were possible, we’d need to play the Awakened DLC.

Thankfully, it doesn’t take long for an answer to arrive here, even if it only managed to raise more questions. Isaac theorises that it was the alien machine he and Carver activated that had kept them alive for reasons unknown to them.
