10 Impossible Video Game Sub-Bosses That Stopped You DEAD

2. Marauder - Doom Eternal

The first brawl with The Marauder in Doom Eternal is brief but memorable due to its brutal difficulty. He is the perfect recipe for a cheap boss; lightning quick, durable as hell, unreasonably powerful attacks, and a shield that laughs in the face of the BFG.

In most boss fights, you usually have to wait for the enemy to telegraph their attack to adjust your strategy accordingly. But for this scrap, it's your proximity to the corrupted Night Sentinel himself that decides his attacks.

If you're close, he'll blast you with his double-barrelled shotgun. If you're at a medium distance, he'll launch at you with his energy axe. If you're far away, he'll shoot a laster. If he blocks your attacks, (which happens a lot), he will summon a hellhound to slay you instead. The fight is super tricky, since one of his attacks can knock you back, triggering something else and keeping you on your toes.

The fight is short but you will fail countless times unless you execute perfect timing, surgical precision and expert evasion. He may become a regular enemy later in the game, but the first encounter stands out as one of the most difficult battles in the entire Doom franchise.
