7. Pokémon Uranium

Pokémon Uranium took almost a decade to finish, its creator –Involuntary Twitch – starting work on the project in his teens, only completing the game earlier this year using RPGmaker XP.
It’s easily the most comprehensive game ever created by fans of the series, complete with over a hundred and fifty unique Pokémon designs, created by members of the community. It’s even got its own user interface, new features, and an online system incorporating trading and battling.
In the game, players travel throughout the region collecting badges, eventually taking part in the Pokémon League, a mysterious creature looming over them throughout, threatening the environment with nuclear destruction.
Visually, it’s indiscernible from official entries; the music is awesome, the writing is appropriate given the material – though the dialogue sometimes seems a little incongruous – but, overall, it’s great. After a while, you may even forget you’re playing an unlicensed release, but unfortunately, the developers received a DMCA takedown notice from Nintendo back in August, the game discontinued despite already receiving over a million downloads.
Regardless, it can still be found elsewhere online, and is well worth your time.
