8. Deadly Fungus - The Last Of Us

The Last of Us was officially unveiled in December 2011, but Naughty Dog had accidentally on purpose let the cat out of the bag before then. Not that you'd know it.

Uncharted 3 landed on PlayStation 3 in November of the same year and contained an Easter egg directly referencing Joel and Ellie's upcoming adventure. During the opening chapter of Drake's Deception, a worn issue of 'The Observer' (a riff on real-life publication, The Guardian) can be found at the bar Nate visits.

The headline reads "Scientists are still struggling to understand deadly fungus". At the time, it appeared to be little more than set dressing. Only after The Last of Us debuted at The Spike Awards a month later, did fans put two and two together.

Naughty Dog's Neil Druckmann would later go on record to explain how the teaser was a slip-up; The Last of Us' existence had originally been penned in for announcement in June 2011, long before Uncharted 3's release. Druckmann admits that the slip-up should have been prevented but let's be real, it's not as if anyone would have ever made the connection without insider knowledge. Everything worked out in the end.
