3. Tom Nook - Animal Crossing
Tom Nook is, in short, a criminal. I know that Animal Crossing carries with it this cutesy and downright adorable aesthetic but Nook's actions tell of a different much more seedy underbelly to the title. You see what initially transpires as a friend doing you a favour, that being giving you a house and equipment, quickly reveals itself to be an almost sweat-shop style scam.
He didn't give you the house for free after all, no no, it's been “gifted” at a huge markup and you now have a bell debt around your neck that's slowly drowning you.
He's also nepotistic to a point where it's truly shifty, hiring his nephews to help run his business and getting everyone else to do the dirty work. He's insanely rich and yet still wants more and it all boils down to him being a loan shark pretending to be a legit business owner.
You might think that Animal Crossing is about fun and laid back adventure, but take a look down and you'll see this guy has got you Nook, Line and Sinker.
