1. Death Stranding Is A Walking Simulator
After ten entries of reiterating the negative impact of assumptions, we come to Death Stranding, which really goes far beyond the titled sentiment of a walking simulator. Kojima seems to have a lot going on in his head, be it showcased in the short Silent Hills PT, the convoluted Metal Gear storylines or his newest creation, Norman Reedus: The Game. Regardless of what you say about the creativity, the uniqueness or the potential arrogance of Kojima’s work, none of it can change the fact that some people simply overlook Death Stranding because of the gameplay.
Death Stranding could be perceived as an experimental game, if you like. Those who perceive it as a walking simulator may have only played a few hours, or worse yet, not played it at all. It comes down to commitment or more shockingly, a player’s taste. If you aren’t down with the core gameplay loop, then of course you won’t be able to experience the quality that comes as a result of repeating said loop.
Besides… how many walking simulators do you know that let you ride a motorbike?
