When Wyatt Chen, Principal Game Designer at Blizzard Entertainment, stepped onto the stage at Blizzcon in 2018 to unveil a brand new Diablo game to thousands of fans, he could never have imagined that he would be stepping off as one of the most memed and controversial figures in the world of gaming.

Diablo Immortal is an upcoming game that has become one of the most fiercely ridiculed and controversial titles on the market, opening up that infamous can of worms to gamers about whether mobile gaming can be put in the same category as PC.

Tensions around the game began to mount following Chen's announcement at Blizzcon that the game would strictly be available on mobile only, prompting jeers, boos and one audience member to ask if the decision was an: 'out of season April Fool's joke.' Ouch.

The event was being streamed live at the time so there was no hiding away from it either, and Blizzard's overall stock fell by a whopping 7% after they retorted back with: "Do you guys not have phones?" It had felt like the company had sold out to the mobile gaming craze at the time and hardcore fans of the franchise were understandably frustrated that they had essentially been told a lie once they dug past the flashy trailers and promises of a 'new Diablo game announcement'.

The truth is that Diablo Immortal looks like a good game in the making, with flashy trailers and clearly lots of love going into it from experienced and passionate developers. It just doesn't really stand a chance with all this negative publicity hanging over it anymore.
