10 Masterpiece Video Games You DIDN'T Play

7. Grim Fandango

Tim Schaefer is the king of developing unappreciated games. The talented developer has such bad luck, it feels like he obtained a monkey's paw so all his work is destined to fail, no matter how great it is.

Nobody went near BrĂ¼tal Legend thanks to its incoherent marketing. Psychonauts was a commercial failure despite being one of the highest rated games on the PS2. Everyone adores Monkey Island, even though the franchise never makes enough money.

But few games in history have been unappreciated like Grim Fandango.

Because of its unique structure and aesthetic, you could understand why the common masses wouldn't flock to purchase this film noir-inspired title. On the contrary, the reception towards the adventure game was very positive during its launch. So, how come nobody bought it?

Unfortunately, Grim Fandango was released during a golden age of gaming. Literally, every system at the time had just released the latest "best game ever". Because Grim Fandango had to contend with Final Fantasy VIII, Tekken 3, Half-Life, Metal Gear Solid, and Ocarina of Time, most people didn't even notice it came out.
