Honourable Mention: Wii/Motion Controls
It was hard to not find a place for Nintendo on the list. I will always have a soft spot for the company, and its software, and I was probably one of the first people in town to have one. I was working at a (now defunct chain) video store when it was released, and grabbed it straight off the truck. It's pretty sad that Nintendo is still the only company to put emphasis on off-line multi-player. As for Motion Controls, it too unfortunately has some kind of impact on the current generation. It started with the Wii, but Microsoft and Sony were quick to find a way to turn motion controls in their favour or at the very least, that's what they had tried to do. Games made specifically around motion controls are generally weak. It's very unfortunate since games that utilize motion controls to supplement the gaming experience, and give players a sense of emersion, were on the whole pretty solid.
