10 MORE Bosses Removed For Being Too Hard

7. The Mecha - Alice: Madness Returns

Relatively early on in Alice: Madness Returns, players get ready to face off against a giant Mecha which is being piloted by two of the game's villains, March Hare and Dormouse.

However, before the fight can kick off in earnest, the Mecha is suddenly taken out by the Mad Hatter, who drops a giant iron kettle on the contraption, destroying it and killing its occupants immediately.

It's a jarringly abrupt conclusion to a battle that hadn't even gotten started yet, and while you might consider this a mere cheeky attempt at subverting the usual end-level boss formula, that's not really the full story.

According to developer American McGee himself, the Mecha was indeed originally supposed to be a legit boss fight, but it was cut for being, among other things, "frustrating."

McGee added that he also only had a single team member working on boss AI during development, and so they simply ran out of time to fine-tune the fight. Without the  resources to make it worthwhile, it got canned.
