10 More Infuriating Video Game Levels You Forgot You Hated
5. Atlantica - Kingdom Hearts II
Now, as much as the trips to Atlantica in the Kingdom Hearts games are optional, we all love The Little Mermaid, so why would we possibly avoid it?
While Atlantica in the original Kingdom Hearts wasn't great - that never-ending loop of "Under the Sea" got on everybody's nerves - few could've anticipated the horrors that would await in the sequel.
The level is little more than a series of rhythm mini-games, as Sora and company perform songs with Atlantica's residents.
Between the blandly simple rhythm mini-games and the songs themselves largely being assaultive to the ears - especially the repetitive "Swim This Way" - it largely feels like a non-event of a world that most players likely regretted visiting.
Atlantica in the first game may have been clunky at times, but it at least felt like a legit Kingdom Hearts world, whereas in the sequel it feels more like a goofy aside that the dev team spent way too much time on.
It wasn't infuriating because it was difficult or unfair, but because those songs were at once annoying and annoyingly memorable.
