10 More Infuriating Video Game Levels You Forgot You Hated

6. Meat Circus - Psychonauts

Psychonauts is one of the most visionary and creative video games of the last two decades, albeit one that culminates with an absolute trash heap of a final level, in the infamous Meat Circus.

Per its name, the level is a brilliantly grotesque collision of protagonist Razputin's childhood memories of the circus and Coach Oleander's childhood memories of a butcher shop, yet that aesthetic ingenuity sadly doesn't carry through to the level's wider design.

This absolute ball-ache of a level is a combination of hellish mission types: you have to escort a young Oly around to safety, perform awkward platforming acrobatics against the clock, and then battle a tricky boss, doing all of this with a scant number of lives to boot.

It's an absolutely miserable experience in its original form. The complaints were pervasive enough that the subsequent Steam release of the game actually nerfed the Meat Circus' difficulty and even included a tongue-in-cheek achievement, "I Thought That Was Unbeatable!," for getting through it.
