10 More Video Games Where You Die At The End

3. Heavy Rain

Until Dawn
Quantic Dream

Heavy Rain was a truly revolutionary title back in its day, with the game's ambitious format of throwing as many possible choices as possible toward players resulting in a whole slew of possible outcomes and endings for each of the four playable characters.

The 2,000-page-strong, x3 BAFTA-winning script around a father's quest to save his son from the Origami Serial Killer brought with it some of the heaviest-hitting emotional depths in gaming history, with players able to end the game with up to three of the four playable protagonists dead.

Investigative journalist Madison Paige can die at various points throughout the game, but can also be killed in the final standoff between herself and the Origami Killer, should she make it to the warehouse.

FBI detective Norman Jayden can also die at points in the game, but can also find himself either killed by the killer, or even be shown overdosing if he's unable to save Shaun Mars.

And finally, bleakest of all, main protagonist Ethan Mars can find himself either being gunned down by the police (wrongfully believing him to be the killer if neither Madison or Norman are present), or committing suicide in jail if Shaun dies and he is framed as the murderer.
