10 More Video Games Where You Die At The End
2. Outlast
One of the most genuinely terrifying titles ever released, Outlast is a first-person survival horror game that sees players take control of protagonist Miles Upshur. Miles is an investigative freelance journalist who makes the inspired decision to explore Lake County's Mount Massive Asylum, a remote psychiatric hospital.
As players progress through the main game with Miles, they begin to uncover that the hospital is being terrorised by an evil entity.
It is revealed that this entity is in fact a biotechnological nanite controlled by a comatose patient named Billy Hope. In the closing stages of the main storyline, Miles terminates Billy's life support machine in an attempt to shut the being down.
However, in a tragic turn of events, the entity (known as the Walrider) attacks and infects Miles, making him another host. The last scene players see of Miles is him being intercepted by a Murkoff military team, which guns down the protagonist following the revelation of him no longer being in control.
The final scene in the game features a plethora of panicked screams as the screen fades to black.
