10 Most Annoying Video Game Levels Ever Made
3. Tubular (Super Mario World)
One of the most frustrating elements of a platformer is when the game forces you to move slowly. Enter Tubular.
Just the second level of Super Mario World's Special Zone, Tubular requires you to nail some precise jumps, then spend the second half of the level floating like a balloon with no ground beneath you. As you float along inchmeal, you'll have to dodge baseball-throwing Chargin' Chucks and fire-spitting Volcano Plants, all while trying to continuously remain afloat using liberally-spread-out P-balloons.
The sluggish movement alone is enough to make this a super annoying level, but add having to dodge that salvo of nonsense with such perfect timing as to keep yourself airborne makes this level near-insufferable. And the anxiety of seeing yourself deflating as you approach the next balloon is unmatched by just about any level on this list (or anywhere else, for that matter).
There is, of course, a way to cheese this level, though; if you enter it with a Blue Yoshi and a Cape Feather, you can jump off of the heads of the Chargin' Chucks, then eat one of the Koopa Paratroopas to fly through the rest of the level. Or, if you're especially skillful, you can beat this level with some well-timed Cape Feather floating. Nevertheless, as it stands, the intended method of beating this level qualifies it for this list.
