At predetermined points in a stage, Yoshi can trigger a 180-degree swivel of the game world, revealing, among others, hidden areas, items and alternate routes, encouraging through examination and repeat playthroughs to ensure no hand-crafted cardboard stone goes unturned. It's a neat mechanic that, when coupled with Yoshi's newfound ability to interact with objects in any given stage's background, provides purpose to everything on-screen, leaving no space wasted.

As a core member of the Nintendo family, Yoshi's first solo outing on Switch is a welcome one, especially for fans who declined to invest in the console's ill-fated predecessor.
