10 Most Awesome Video Game Enemies

5. Genome Soldier (Metal Gear Solid)

The Metal Gear Solid franchise is brilliant for so many reasons, but one of the more understated contributors to the fun is the series' various soldiers, specifically the Genome Soldiers from the first MGS game. Through the game's intuitive radar system, we're able to observe their cone-shaped field of vision, a hilarious rule that often causes the guards to seem blind and thoroughly incompetent; they can standing 10 feet in front of you, but if you're barely outside the cone of vision, they won't have a snowball's chance in Hell of detecting you. Furthermore, it's great fun to mess with these guys. They're not the brightest tools in the shed; knock on a surface, and they'll come around to investigate, allowing you to promptly snap their neck with a few well-timed presses of the square button, which lets out an extremely satisfying "Uh-uh-uh-uh-uh-CRACK" sound. Best of all, these guards are easily confused if you decide to hide in a cardboard box, no matter how out of place the box being there might seem. They're dumb, but I've spent countless joyous hours avoiding the next boss battle and just screwing with these genetically modified morons instead.
