10 Most Controversial South Park Moments

9. Tourette's

As a set up to an episode, it’s incredibly simple, but perfectly South Park: after learning about Tourette’s syndrome, Cartman seizes the opportunity to spout whatever horrible thoughts come to his mind, pretending that he’s afflicted, and in doing so becoming a spokesperson for the disorder.

When the premise was announced, the Tourette Syndrome Association was ready for the worst. They petitioned Comedy Central to air an announcement or apology before and after the episode aired, on the assumption the show would treat the condition with its usual irreverence and disregard.

Well, they were half right. While the TSA were quick to point out that “Le Petit Tourette” focused on the more sensational aspects of Tourette’s - that is, the involuntary swearing, the prevalence of which is significantly exaggerated in the episode - they had to concede that the episode was well researched, and for the most part accurately depicted the experience of sufferers.

With jabs at Chris Hansen and To Catch A Predator thrown into the mix, South Park lands just about on the side of the angels at the end of this episode - a good day at the office.
