10 Most Creative Guns In Video Games

4. Cerebral Bore – Turok 2

One of the most lethal and effective weapons in any video game to date – and one that completely took many gamers by surprise, requiring a moment to put down the controller, contemplate what they had just done, and rocking back and forth in the dark while the screeching sounds of death permeated around the inside of our heads.

The Turok series saw us take on a planet of mutant-like dinosaurs determined to tear our limbs off. As such, we needed to be well equipped with a variety of powerful and punishing weapons to fend off the barrage of tails, claws and teeth that came our way.

Rifles, shotguns and bazookers all did the trick – eventually – but some of those dino-critters were incredibly tough, and it took something special to take them down with a little more ease.

The Cerebral Bore seems harmless enough when you first collect it. The gun isn't particularly big and when fired produces a small orb – so far not so impressive, thought 11-year old me. However, what follows is the orb locking on an enemy's head, flying into it with a mighty bang, and then proceeds to start drilling until the head explodes. As gruesome as the graphics were at the time, it's the mix of metal drilling into bone, the crushing of flesh, and the stifled screams of the dying villain that still haunt many-a-gamer to this day.
