Usually when game developers include their own cheats in the game, you're free to use them to your heart's content. Most titles will not register your progress when you use them to keep things fair, but other than that, the cheats are up for the taking.

Not in Banjo-Kazooie, though. Here, cheat codes are a trap set up to punish those who can't be bothered to play the game normally.

To use cheats in Banjo-Kazooie, you have to enter them manually in the secret room in the Sandcastle level. When you input two of them, the game will warn you that you're treading on thin ice and that if you continue to play with "illegal" advantages, you're going to pay dearly for it.

Now, those who like to play with cheats may disregard this warning as the game being silly or perhaps talking about preventing you from saving the game. You know, the usual stuff.

However, as soon as you enter a third cheat, the evil witch Grunty will lash out at you and enact her "Code Vengeance," erasing your save file completely!

It's an absolutely ruthless punishment, but if you fell for it, you only have yourself to blame.
