Many wondered what the followup to Undertale would even look like, and rather than get lost to hype cycles or anything approaching controlled expectation, creator Toby Fox just released what is ostensibly "Undertale 2" after a couple of tweets, for free, on his website.

Now named DeltaRune and taking place after the Pacifist ending of Undertale, we journey back to the world of the underground monsters, to find they're all living supremely happy, human-esque lives. Like booting into middle-America in everything from happy families to an average high school day, things suddenly go sour when our new hero drops into another realm where they're the hero of an ancient prophecy.

Y'know, because video games.

Clearly this is Fox channeling his love for Zelda and all things Triforce-related, but DeltaRune's combat is diehard Final Fantasy, expanding on the original's turn-based setup with a more traditional side-on view.

Sadly - to some degree - DeltaRune as it is now, is a "Chapter 1"; a labour of love from Toby Fox himself, and an indication of what's to come, but with no fixed release date on the rest of the story.

Either way, it's available for free right now, and makes for the perfect palette cleanser after the likes of Red Dead, God of War etc.
