The Last of Us Part 2
Naughty Dog

Okay, you may know where this is going – but we’re not going to focus on that particular death just yet. Instead, this section is a look into the countless other deaths players face during The Last of Us Part II.

In the first game, Ellie and Joel were the sole focus. Although there were a few sad deaths (Tess, Sam, Henry) they are few and far between. However, in Part II, due to the fact you play as two characters from different sides, there are a lot more impactful demises.

It’s only when you start playing as Abby that her friends' murders begin to hold impact. Nora, who Ellie tortures then kills, is later seen alive in the game during Abby’s arc, and her demise must be felt all over again. You also see the devastating impact Owen (Abby’s ex boyfriend) and Mel’s (his pregnant girlfriend) deaths have on Abby.

And this is just the start.

Yara, one of the children Abby saves from the Seraphites, is shot dead after the player spends a good few hours getting her medicine.

And Ellie isn’t safe from this tragedy either. After everything she goes through at the start of the game (more on that later) her best friend Jesse is shot in the head by Abby.

This relentless barrage of tragic deaths means the PC’s are almost constantly in mourning for someone.

You can guess how cheerful that is.
