10 Most Epic Deaths In Video Game History
3. Galuf (Final Fantasy V)
It might have been made in the 16-bit era, but Final Fantasy V proved that you don't need realistic graphics to tell a powerful story. The game pulled on players' heartstrings from start to finish with a host of moving moments, and one that truly stands out above the rest is the death of one of the playable party members: Galuf.
During an encounter with the game's main villain, Exdeath, it seems like our heroes are about to be defeated. Exdeath has them cornered and captured in his magical spells, but Galuf manages to break free and takes on the evil sorcerer in a 1-on-1 battle to the death.
Exdeath is far too powerful for Galuf to defeat on his own, but the old man manages to survive blast after blast, withstanding the most powerful spells in the game. Exdeath famously proclaims that "all the hatred in the world" wouldn't be enough to defeat him, but Galuf is fighting with the force of love and keeps on surviving until Exdeath eventually gives up.
Galuf dies of his wounds moments later, but his sacrifice was enough to save the rest of the party, including his granddaughter Krile.
