10 Most Frustrating Moments In RPG History

10. At The Next Conveniently Hidden Passage-way, Turn Right

navskyrim This is a problem I had with Oblivion mainly, but also with a few older RPGs that had terrible terrible maps. Running around outside is fun enough, when you need to get from one place to another the map points out exactly where you need to go. Sure, it doesn't show you were the rocks or impassable objects are but when you're looking for a giant Oblivion gate it doesn't really matter. That being said, there was one point when I was trying to close the Oblivion gate for Cheydinhal that I was a tad confused. I ended up venturing into the wrong one, dying quite a few times and using many of my items before I finally closed it. When I emerged back into the real world I was confused that the quest was still active, took me quite a while to realise that the map was actually pointing to a completely different gate entirely. However my main issue with the maps in older RPGs is that they don't show you the different levels or heights unless you change area. Whereas newer games will show when you've gone down some stairs, games like Oblivion put it all on one map meaning that if you were venturing into a particularly large dungeon everything was displayed. It didn't help that ALL the rocks looked the same and finding that small tucked away passageway was downright impossible. Granted I don't have this problem any more, but then again I was young and naive and used to think there were monsters under my bed that only my duvet could protect me from.
